Napoleon hill and Budgeting Your Time

"Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to cut all sources of retreat. Only by doing so can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a burning desire to win - essential to success." Napoleon Hill

Your attitude towards life determines your attitude toward time. People pretty much fall into two camps on this subject.

Doers:
  • Have a definite major purpose
  • Manage circumstances and resources
  • Examine every idea they encounter before they adopt or discard it
  • Takes risks and assume responsibility
  • Learn from their mistakes
  • Go the Extra Mile
  • Control their habits
  • Have a positive Mental Attitude
  • Apply their faith in their own success
  • Create mastermind alliances to expan their knowledge and experience
  • Recognize their weaknesses and take steps to correct them

Drifters:
  • Have no Goal in life
  • Are controlled by circumstances and the lack of resources
  • Flit from one idea about life to the other, depending on this week's fad or what the guy on TV said last night
  • Run from opportunity and blame others for their lots in life
  • Make the same mistakes again and again
  • Do only what it takes to get by
  • Let their habits control them
  • Have a negative mental attitude
  • Never do anything to improve their situation
  • Learn all they want to know from that guy on TV
  • Wouldn't know a weakness if it bit them

Using the Law of Success to gain Emotional Control

"Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy."
Dale Carnegie

Much of what we do is directed by our emotions. Our feelings can lift us up to great achievements or throw us down to failure, we owe it to ourselves to have a understanding of how our emotions work and how to control them. The first step of controlling our emotions is to identify the feelings that motivate us and the negative emotions that break us.

The Seven Negative Emotions
1. Fear
2. Hatred
3. Anger
4. Greed
5. Jealousy
6. Revenge
7. Superstition

The Seven Positive Emotions
1. Love
2. Sex
3. Hope
4. Faith
5. Sympathy
6. Optimism
7. Loyalty

These 14 emotions are the letters of the alphabet to your key to success. These emotions will either write your plan of success or your failure. Each of these emotions are related to mental attitude, which is key to obtaining a pleasing personality, integral to success. You must take control of your mind and what emotions are going on at certain times. If you feel yourself getting angry, stop, think it over and realize this is anger, a negative emotion. Realize anger for what it is, and then let it go. You must master this technique in order to create a positive mental attitude and a pleasing personality. Also make note of the situations that spark these emotions, and act to eliminate them or to seek them out and use them.

Building a desire for success into a obsession and working towards your definite major purpose are the cornerstones of your effort to gain emotional control. Each strengthens the other, and when you reach progress with one, progress will begin everywhere.

The Road Not Taken and a Positive Mental Attitude

"Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours."
Dale Carnegie

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And Looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that we passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads onto way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this sign
Somewhere ages and ages hence;
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost-1916

This poem means a lot to me. I have never considered my child hood to be fair, but in a lot of ways I now consider it necessary. I have learned from my parents mistakes, and their misfortunes.

It's how we survive, that makes us who we are.

Because of my parents mistakes I have been able to avoid the pitfalls of life, and wish for something more for myself. At times life may seem hard and you may feel that no matter what you do, nothing will bring you success. You have to believe in yourself and create a strong Positive Mental Attitude, then determine your course of action and take the road that's right for you. Take this road no matter what, whether it is traveled on or not. You decide your own destiny and fate in the world of success. Take the classes, learn the rules, become financially smart, and make your dreams come true.

Getting The Exact Position you Desire, from Napoleon hill

"Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing."
Warren Buffet

1ST~ Decide exactly what kind of job you want.
2ND~ Choose the company or individual you wish to work.
3RD~ Study your prospective employer, for policy's, chances of advancement.
4Th~ Analyze yourself and figure what you can offer in the form of services and ideas.
5Th~ Concentrate on what you can give and not what your prospective employer.
6Th~ Once you have a plan in mind meet with a experienced writer and put it on paper in neat form and in deep detail.
7Th~ Present it to the proper people and they will do the rest.

If you are out of work I was use this formula from Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill to help you pick the job of your dreams. I would pick the top 3 company's I would want to work for, and I would complete this formula for each one of them. If it doesn't work, I would rinse and repeat, and even do the same thing for the same company's with even more detail. Stay determined to get the jobs and reach the dreams you wish. Remember tho, jobs are not the answer to a long term problem which is wealth. Whatever dream job it may be, this job will not bring you riches unless you are financially smart.

Specialized Knowledge, learning from Napoleon Hill lesson One.

Starting today and for who knows how long, I am going to take a piece of work from Napoleon Hill and explain it here everyday. Each day will start off with a quote as well :).

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."
Henry David Thoreau

In this world there is only two kinds of knowledge, one is General Knowledge and the other is specialized. General Knowledge no matter how great in quantity is of little use in the accumulation of money. Knowledge does not attract money, unless organized and intelligently directed through plans of action with a definite end of accumulation of money. Many people believe knowledge is power, it is nothing of the sort. Knowledge is only potential power, it becomes power when organized into definite plans of action, and directed to a definite end. Schools should teach students how to organize and use knowledge instead of just teaching information. A educated man is one that does not know everything about something, an educated man is a man who has developed his mind to work in a way where he can use his knowledge to gain what he seeks.

Learn as much as you can, but also learn how to direct that knowledge to gain what you desire. Follow this and your on your way of mastering the keys to success.

Napoleon Hills QQS Rating?

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."
Mark Twain

Apply this formula as a habit, and you will go far in business, I promise.

1.Quality of service means the performance of every detail, in connection with your posistion, in the most efficient way possible, with the object of greater efficiency always in your mind.

2. Quanitity of service shall be understood as the habit of rendering all service of which you are capable of giving at all times.

3. Spirit of service means that habit of agreeable, harmonious conduct which will create cooperation from friends and fellow employees.

Practicing the QQS Rating will help you create a stronger personality and you will generally go farther in business.

The law of success and the Optimist Creed by Christian D. Larson

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.

To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds.

To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you

How To Build A Plan and Make Smart Goals

"Remember that your real wealth can be measured not by what you have, but by what you are."
Napoleon Hill

1. Ally yourself with a mastermind group.

2. Before forming your mastermind group, decide what advantages and benefits you offer them.

3. Meet regularly. Napoleon Hill recommends twice a week.

4. Maintain perfect harmony. It is vitally important that all members of the group are working toward the same goal.

Remember, you are engaged in an undertaking of major importance to you. To be sure of success, you must have plans which are faultless.

You must have the advantage of the experience, education, native ability and imagination of other minds.

No one has sufficient experience, education, native ability, and knowledge to insure the accumlation of a great fortune, without the cooperation of other people. Every plan you adopt, in your endeavor to accumulate wealth, should be the joint creation of yourself and every other member for you mastermind group. If the first plan whihc you adopt does not work successfully, replace it with a new plan. If this new plan fails to work, replace it, until you find a plan that works. This is the point where more people meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to tak eht eplace of those which fail.

There is no value in persistently pursuing a plan that doesn't work. If something isn't working, change it!

Temporary defeat should mean only one thing- the creatin knowledge that there is something wrong with your plan. You achievement can be no greater than your plans are sound.

Keys to Success and What Makes a Leader

"Through some strange and powerful principle of "mental chemistry" which she has never divulged, nature wraps up in the impluse of strong desire, "that something" which recognizes no such word as "impossible," and accepts no such reality as failure."
Napoleon Hill

What makes a Leader:

1. Confidence and Courage

2. Control of Self

3. Definiteness of decision.

4. Strong sense of Justice

5. Habit of doing more than paid. Leaders should always work harder than followers.

6. Definiteness of plans. A leader must plan his work and work his plans.

7. Have a Pleasing personality

8. Mastery of detail

9. Understanding and sympathy

10. Must assume full responsibility. A leader must assume responsibility for the mistakes or shortcomings of his followers.

11. Cooperation. Leadership calls for power, and power calls for cooperation.

Using a Positive Mental Attitude to Beat Failure.

"There is no failure. What appears to be failure is usually nothing but temporary defeat. Make sure you do not accept it as permanent."
Napoleon Hill

No one in this world has the right to brand you as a failure except yourself. In times of trouble or despair, if you should feel inclined to brand yourself a failure, remember these words of philosopher Croesus, an advisor to Cyrus, King of the Persians.

"I am reminded, O king, and take this lesson to heart, that there is a wheel on which the affairs of men revolve and its mechanism is such that it prevents any man from being always fortunate."

The wheel of life is always turning, one day may bring you fortune and the next can bring misfortune. We cannot stop this wheel of fate from turning, but knowing that it always turns means good fortune will follow, just like night follows day. Fortune will come to those who maintain faith in themselves and honestly do their best.

In Lincolns greatest hours of trial, he was often heard to have said
"And this, too, will soon pass."

There is no such thing as a definite failure, as long as you believe the wheel of life forever turns.

George D. Herron and the Golden Rule Philosophy

He who wishes to secure the good of others has already secured his own.
~Confucius

There can never be success without happiness, and no one can be happy without bringing happiness to others. It must be voluntary and with no other objective than that of spreading sunshine into the hearts of those who are burdened. Here is George D. Herrons Philosophy on The Golden Rule.

WE have talked much of the brotherhood to come; but brotherhood has always been the fact of our life, long before ti became a modern and inspired sentiment. Only we have been brothers in slavery and torment, brothers in ignorance and its perdition, brothers in disease, and war, and want, brothers in prostitution and hypocrisy. What happens to one of us sooner or later happens to all; we have always been inescapably involved in common destiny. The world constantly tends to the level of the down most man in it; and that down most man is the world's real ruler, hugging it close to his bosom, dragging it down to his death.
You do not think so, but it is true, and it ought to be true. For if there were some way by which some of us could get free, apart from others, if there were some way by which some of us could have heaven while others had hell, if there were some way by which part of the world could escape some form of the blight and peril and misery of disinherited labor, then indeed would our world be lost and damned; but since men have never been able to separate themselves from one another's woes and wrongs, since history is fairly stricken with the lesson that we cannot escape brotherhood of some kind, since the whole of life is teaching us that we are hourly choosing between brotherhood in suffering and brotherhood in good, it remains for us to choose the brotherhood of a cooperative world, with all its fruits thereof-the fruits of love and liberty!

Self Control Esssay

"The man who actually knows just what he wants in life has already gone a long way toward attaining it."
Napoleon hill, The Law of Success book-Chapter on Self-Control.

I wish to be of service to to others as I journey through life. To do this I have adopted this creed as a guide to be followed in dealing with my fellow beings:

To train myself so that never, under and circumstances, will I find fault with any person, no matter how much I may disagree with them or how inferior their work may be, as long as I know they are sincerely trying to do their best.

To respect my country, my profession, and myself. To be honest and fair with others, as I expect them to be honest and fair with me. To be a loyal citizen of my country. To speak of it with praise, and act always as a worthy custodian of its good name. To be a person whose name carries weight wherever it goes.

To base my expectations of reward on a solid foundation of service rendered. To be willing to pay the price of success in honest effort. To look upon my work as an opportunity to be seized with joy and made the most of, and not as a paoinful drudgery to be reluctantly endured.

To remember that success lies within myself- in my own brain. To expect difficulties and to force my way through them.

To avoid procrastination in all its forms, and never, under any circumstances put off until tomorrow any duty that should be performed today.

Finally, to take a good grip of the joys of life, so I may be courteous to others, faithful to friends, true to god-a fragrance in the path I tread.

All successful people grade high on Self-Control. All failures grade low, generally zero, on this important law of human conduct.

Study the people around you and observe, with profit, that all the successful people exercise self-control. While the failures allow their thoughts, deeds, and words run wild.

The Seven Deadly Horsemen

"The Seven Deadly Horsemen
Intolerance,Greed,Revenge,Egotism,Suspicion,Jealousy, and ?

The worst enemy that anyone has is the one that walks around under his or her own hat. If you could see yourself as others see you, the enemies that you harbor in your own personality might be discovered and thrown out. The seven enemies named in this essay are the commonest that ride millions of men and women to failure without being discovered. Your success will be measured very largely by the way you manage your battle against these swift riders.
If these enemies rode openly, on real horses, they would not be dangerous, because they could be rounded up and put out of commission. But they ride unseen, in our minds. So silently and subtly do they work that most people never recognize their presence.
Take careful inventory of yourself and find out how many of these seven horsemen you are harboring."

This was taken out of a essay written by Napoleon Hill in The Law of Success book. He goes into detail on each of the horsemen and how to beat them. The answer is you, only you can beat your own demons. Analyze yourself, and try to beat these horsemen. Live a life of honesty and integrity. A person of real success has done just that whether they know it or not.

Becoming a Master Salesperson

"No one can become a master salesperson if they compromise false-hood. Even if no one ever catches them red-handed in expressing what they do not believe, their words will fail in the accomplishment of their purpose because a person cannot give their words "flesh" if they do not come from the heart, and if they are not mixed with genuine, unadulterated Enthusiasm."
The Law of Success By Napoleon Hill~ Chapter on Enthusiasm

In order to become a true master salesperson you have to believe what your selling, but more importantly you have to believe in yourself. In order to believe in yourself you have to be true to your self, you cannot live in false-hood and pretend your something your not in order to make a sale. It may work from time to time, and you may find yourself doing well for a while. But when it comes down to it the enduring salesperson is someone who its truthful to himself.

I try and read this paragraph to my self daily. When you learn the Law of Success you will find there are many things in which you will have to read and memorize daily. Pick your favorites, do different ones on different days, With the most important every day. It may seem like a awful burden to read these out loud at first, but when you incorporate these truths into your life the amount of change you will begin to see, will take away all traces of doubt or discouragement.

These truths are the core to success.

The key to success:
I Should - I Can - I Will

You know you should put these truths to use,
You know you can,now
WILL You?

The 12 Step Program To Launching a Business

"Every failure is a blessing in disguise, providing it teaches some needed lesson one could not have learned without it. Most so-called failures are only temporary defeats" By Napoleon Hill

1. Write your own Mission Statement
2. Describe your product or service Area
3. Conduct Market Research
4. Create your business Plan
5. Build your Network
6. Formalize your idea
7. Create a Prototype
8. Hold Focus Groups
9. Find a manufacturer and distributor
10. Launch your web site
11. Publicize your idea
12. Pitch potential suppliers/customers

Every successful business starts out with a plan, and so does every successful person. Everyone needs to reevaluate themselves from time to time and make sure they are on their plan to reach their goals. If situations have changed and goals are slightly different, change your plan. But always keep a plan with a definite chief aim. Having a Chief aim is The Most Important Factor, in accomplishing any goal.

Four Reasons Why We Fail by Donny Deutsch

"When Failure is just not an option, what better motivation is there to succeed?"
Donny Deutsch

1. Fear of Failure: "Know that you can afford to fail, and failure will happen. Count on it. But failures bring about successes. Risk is all about trying, getting int he game. You can't succeed if you are not in the game."

2. Lack of Confidence: "Decide that you are confident, and have a more playful, less serious attitude about life. Most successful people have this attitude."

3. Lack of Passion: "Without passion and the excitement, energy and motivation it creates, it's hard to be successful. Then it's just work. And that's not fun. I've seen hundreds of people who have turned their great ideas into millions. They all share one common theme. They have passion about what they are doing. In that sense they are doing what they love."

4. Naive Sense of Entitlement: "This attitude is one of the biggest obstacles to success, thinking you are deserving of something. Most successful people have humility and a genuine sense of appreciation for the opportunities they are given."

The Five Steps on how to Find your Passion

"This is the moment when we must come together to save this planet. Let us resolve that we will not leave our children a world where the oceans rise and famine spreads and terrible storms devastate our lands."
Barack Obama

Everyone is passionate about something, whether its baseball, or working outdoors. Figure out what you are passionate about and build your goals around that passion. One of the key steps to reach success is doing the things you love most. By finding what you are passionate about and pursuing your dreams you create a happier and more enthusiastic you!

1. Who do you most admire?
2. When was your best day and what were you doing?
3. What did you love to do when you were a kid?
4. What would your story read if you were its author.
5. What would you do even if you weren't being paid for it.

Keep out Outside Influences

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
Theodore Roosevelt

1. Wake up to music, instead of waking up to that annoying alarm clock.

2. Reduce your exposure to the news media. The media is full of bad news, and that is simply because "bad news sells" This will dampen your enthusiasm which is a key factor in reaching success.

3. When you drive use it as a time for inspiration and learning. I suggest picking up the Think and Grow Rich Audio to listen to while driving.

4. Limit the amount of time you watch T.V. Why watch T.V and see other people making the big bucks, instead of staying on track and working on your own goals.

5. Develop new friends who are optimists and are ambitious.

6. Develop a Mastermind group and have lunch with this group once a week. This group can help you stay on track with your goals.

7. Plan your day the day before and your week a week before.

8. During the day frequently ask yourself: "Is this activity moving me towards my goals?"

One Minute Life Lessons by Ken Blanchard

"Congruency is powerful for people. Walk the talk. Make the actions match."
Ken Blanchard

Marriage: "I married above myself. We met at Cornell university and celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary this year. I am not the head of the house. WE are teammates. She has skills I don't have, and I have skills she doesn't. We write letters to each other about what we like best in each other."

Time Management: "Nothing good happens by accident. You have to put structure on stuff. And for life balance, look at your calendar and block out time for yourself."

A word of Advice: "If you have your head down and are quacking like a duck complaining and acting like a victim , no one is going to help you."

Recommended book: Team of Rivals about Abraham Lincoln. " He has a philosophy that you will be amazed at what you get done when you don't care who gets the credit."

His Philosophy: "Be a life long learner. I believe God didn't make any junk. If my performance isn't as good as I want, I am always willing to learn. My self-worth is not up for grabs every day. I don't base it on other people. I think a journey starts with learning who you are and getting comfortable in your own skin."

Practicing humility: "sometimes the human ego edges good out and God out. Thinking I am Ok and you are not, is the worst way you can be. Thinking more of yourself than you should or less of yourself than you should both come from self-doubt.

Credit to others: "I've been fortunate to have many mentors, people who were willing to share sound advice with me. My mother used to say to me, "Why don't you write a book all by yourself? and my response was, "I already know what I know! I've written 45 books with over 60 co-authors. I've invited them all to my 70Th birthday party next year; to not only celebrate that occasion, but to share with each other what we've learned since we last wrote together. It should be a fun time."

Ken Blanchard is a great writer and person to look up to. I take stock in all his work and look up to him greatly. This article was taken from Success magazine which I highly recommend.
